David and Teresa Romanoff, recent immigrants from |

Russia, opened a small meat store in New York City. |

1920 |
Their two sons, Nathan and Harold, joined them in the |
|
business. |

1931 |
Harold and Nathan started a wholesale route business. |
|
They delivered fresh beef to retail stores. Each day |
|
they filled up their truck with product and stopped at |

butcher shops until the truck was empty. |

|
|
1937 |
The brothers rented space on the Lower West Side of |
|
New York City and opened a wholesale meat company. |
|
They purchased whole beef carcasses from western
|
|
packers and cut them into smaller cuts to sell to retail |
|
stores and restaurants. Their company was located in |
|
what is today known as the "Meat Packing District". |
|
This enterprise expanded and continued for the next |
|
60 years until the company relocated to New Jersey. |
|
|
|
1939 |
The brothers purchased and operated a slaughter- |
|
|
house in Esterville, Iowa. The plant was sold in 1943. |
|
1944
|
They purchased another packing house in Chester, |
|
New York which sold product to the U.S. Military as well |
|
as wholesalers, hotels and restaurants. The plant was |
|
sold in 1947. |
|
1949 |
Harold and Nathan purchased another slaughterhouse |
|
in McCook, Nebraska. This plant serviced the military, |
|
the school lunch program, New York State hospitals &
|
|
prisons, retailers and food service companies. |
|
December 29th 1944 Jerry Romanoff with his father and brother

1960 |
The Nebraska facility was one of the first plants to |
|
|
vacuum pack cuts for national distribution, both |
|
wholesale and retail. |
|
1961 |
Jerry Romanoff, Nathan's son, joined the business, |
|
working in both New York and Nebraska. |
|
1969 |
The plant was sold to Wal*Mart for a super-center. |
|
All operations except slaughtering were moved to |
|
New York where the company continued to service the |
|
school lunch program, New York State hospitals & |
|
prisons and retailers as well as hotels, airlines, cruise |
|
ships and restaurants. |
|
|
|
1978 |
Jerry Romanoff was elected President.

1979
|
Jerry Romanoff was elected Chairman. He retained the

1980
|
Nebraska Meat Corporation in New York was founded.

1987

The company added smoked pork offal (pork neckbones,

hocks, feet, tails, jowls, etc.) and smoked turkey parts
|
| |
(smoked drums, wings, necks & tails) to its product line.

| |

1996
|
The company realized the importance of case-ready

products. It commenced a case-ready program for

smoked & fresh pork offal and smoked & fresh turkey

The company moved from New York City to Newark, NJ

(adjacent to Newark Airport) The new plant is a state-

of-the-art facility for smoking and packaging overwrap,

vacuum pack, gas flush, bulk & roll stock product.

2004
|
Maria Paredes was appointed National Sales Manager.

2005
|
Robert Romanoff, a C.P.A, joined the company as Execu-
|
| |
tive Vice-President. He had been with his brother,
|
|
Richard, for 10 years in Nebraskaland, Inc. Bronx, NY.
|

Nebraskaland is one of the largest distributors in the
|
|
| |
northeast and is now independently owned and
|
|
| |
operated by Richard Romanoff.

| |

2006
|
Nebraska Meat purchased the name and assets of
|
| |
LSK Food Products. LSK smoked the same products as
|
| |
did Nebraska. However, its customer base was whole-
|
| |
sale distributors and food service companies, whereas,
|
| |
Nebraska Meat customer base was primarily retailers.
|
Raritan Distribution Center
|

The purchased resulted in a slight overlapping of clients.
|
|

| |
Nebraska Meat obtained a 53,000-square-foot facility in
|
| |
Raritan Center, Edison, NJ. It's a distribution center for
|
| |
all of Nebraska Meat's shipments. In addition, the ware-
|
| |
house stores and ships products for other companies.

2007
|
Robert Romanoff is elected President of Nebraska Meat.

|
Nebraska Meat moved its distribution center to a larger

76,000 sq. ft. facility in Rockaway, New Jersey.

Present |
Today, Nebraska Meat Corporation has a well-trained

staff of more than 400 employees. The company has the
|
| |
largest market share of this smoked meat category in
|
| |
the United States and continues to service the retailers,
|
| |
wholesale distributors and food service institutions
